“Unlike several other firms that we have dealt with, B&P’s advice always goes beyond a pure legal perspective, demonstrating an understanding of the fact that the risks we face are inter-related and therefore need to be assessed and mitigated holistically.
Additionally, the firm has always demonstrated familiarity with the legal and compliance framework of the main international jurisdictions, including the UK and New York, and this is unique among its Ghanaian peers.”.

I had the opportunity to undertake an internship at B&P Associates for eight weeks, where I gained valuable experience in various areas of law. My decision to pursue an internship prior to applying for the post-call program at the Ghana School of Law was fueled by a desire to understand Ghana’s legal system better. However, I have gained much more than I anticipated over this internship period. I chose to intern at B&P because it was one of the few firms I found that specialized in intellectual property and corporate law, which were my areas of interest during law school. Additionally, my prior experience in Ghana made me aware of the widespread misogyny in the country, and I believed that a woman-led law firm would be a better fit for me. The team embraced me, providing multiple opportunities for me to tackle tasks that were previously unfamiliar to me. During my time at B&P, I have drafted attendance notes following court representations, witnessed the cross-examination of an opposing party in court, and even prepared the first draft of a due diligence report, among other tasks. I had the opportunity to shadow lawyers as they went to court for various purposes including filing court processes and representing clients. Additionally, I have gained experience preparing documents for both legal and business support services. The team at B&P Associates was incredibly accommodating and willing to guide me, whether it was to explain an area of law or provide clarity on the bureaucratic processes involved in practicing law in Ghana. Each day, I arrived at work knowing that I would leave having learnt something valuable for building a legal career in Ghana. I have experienced the level of dedication it takes to work at a Firm that goes the extra mile to provide clients with the necessary legal support. The past two months have been a wonderful learning experience and I am proud of the lessons I have learned, the relationships I have formed and the work I have contributed to, no matter how little. As a Diploma Program (DP) 1 student at SOS- Hermann Gmeiner International College, I recently completed a two-week internship at B&P Associates. During this program, I had the privilege to engage in various legal activities that significantly enriched my understanding of law. One of the highlights of my internship was preparing an internal memo on a divorce case which introduced me to the intricate field of family law. Accompanying lawyers to court trials and assisting in taking court notes provided me with invaluable real-life legal experiences. Moreover, I had the opportunity to draft research memos on topics such as the court structure of Ghana, the role of the Domestic Violence & Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), and trademarks. Receiving feedback from practicing lawyers enhanced the quality and credibility of my research, while honing my document drafting skills. Educational trips to the Ghana Supreme Court and DOVVSU; a One-Stop Centre offered me firsthand insights into the judicial system and the handling of domestic violence cases. Participating in the registration of a company’s trademark demonstrated to me the meticulous nature of corporate law, emphasizing the importance of due diligence. Overall, this internship not only provided me with practical legal experience but also instilled in me the essence of effective communication, attention to detail, and the significance of continuous learning in the legal profession. I am grateful for the invaluable lessons and experiences gained during this program. “It has been an exciting and intensive eight-week internship and I cannot overemphasize how important this period has been for me. The disparity between what I learnt in school and what actually occurs in legal practice has been a true eye-opener. This internship has indeed been a great learning experience for me. I had the rare privilege of understudying brilliant seniors who tutored and mentored me throughout the period. The wealth of knowledge I have garnered within this relatively short period has been impactful and I strongly believe this will prove useful as I begin my legal career. I am particularly happy about the way I was warmly received and it is difficult saying goodbye to a place I called home over the past eight weeks. I am extremely grateful to the Managing Partner of B&P Associates and the Ghana School of Law for this opportunity.” Audrey Nana Oye Addy GSL Summer Intern, 2022 Barrister of the Supreme Court of Ghana, 2022 Best Student in Interpretation of Deeds and Statutes, 2022
