Faces of Incarceration: A Visitor’s Reflections on Ghana’s Prisons

Faces of Incarceration: A Visitor’s Reflections on Ghana’s Prisons

Welcome to a Special Edition of the B&P Associates Lawyers & Consultants (BPA) Community First Podcast where we have Legal and Social Conversations with the Community. This Episode, hosted by our Legal Associates, @Bessy Agyeiwaa Crentsil and @David William Akuoko- Nyantakyi, is a collaboration between the firm and students of the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.

To celebrate the launch of the BPA Community Legal Outreach week, we hosted 9 students from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School (UPENN Law) at our offices for the entire week, working alongside them and other agencies to engage in various community activities which address social issues.
We took the opportunity to visit the Nsawam Prison in the course of their stay. This was to give the students a complete perspective of the legal system in Ghana. Our time was spent interacting with the leadership, wardens and inmates of the Prison to gain an understanding of the system and common challenges faced. This Podcast is an insightful account of their experience of the prison visit considering how different societies both in Ghana and the United State of America, approach crime, punishment and prison recidivism.   Listen Here:
